VOC
The Dutch East India Company, or VOC, was a Dutch trading company founded in 1602. The company focused on overseas trade, with a trade area stretching from the Cape of Good Hope to Japan. Some of these areas were occupied by the VOC. After nearly 200 years, the VOC was disbanded in 1799. Financial problems and the founding of the Batavian Republic in 1795, after which the VOC was nationalised, was the beginning of the end of this once-successful company.
