The decolonisation of Indonesia received a lot of attention. Emotions ran high, and people were either for or against "letting the Indies go".
Some saw it as an historic right and even as a duty to govern Indonesia, whereas others regarded our presence as an occupation and drew parallels with the occupation of the Netherlands in World War Two, that had just ended.
The world had little or no sympathy for the so-called police actions.
